Week 13 kicks off with a Thursday Night Football matchup between the Dallas Cowboys, always a public betting favourite, and the New Orleans Saints. The Cowboys still lead the NFC East, but after a 6-1 start, have dropped three of their last four games both straight up and against the spread (ATS). That slide includes an overtime loss to Las Vegas last week that saw them take 14 penalties. Oddsmakers opened Dallas as a 5-point favourite on the road and that line now sits at -4.5. New Orleans, meanwhile, is expected to start Taysom Hill at quarterback in what would be his first start of the season.
Moving to Sunday, there are a few big spreads to take note of. The Indianapolis Colts have moved from -7.5 at the open to -9 at the Houston Texans, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are now at -10 after opening at -9 at the Atlanta Falcons, and the Los Angeles Rams are big 13-point favourites at home to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Even though we’ve talked about how underdogs have dominated this season, more than 85 per cent of bettors like the Rams and Bucs to cover, and 65 per cent like the Colts.
The week winds down with a couple of rivalry games that will be very important in the standings. The Kansas City Chiefs sit in first place in the AFC West at 7-4, with the other three teams at 6-5. So, the Denver Broncos have a big opportunity here on the road. Oddsmakers don’t like their chances with the Chiefs (4-7 ATS) coming off a bye as 10-point favourites.
Monday Night Football could be the best game of the week as the top two teams in the AFC East square off in Buffalo. About 70 per cent of bettors like division-leading New England Patriots to cover in this one as 3-point underdogs.
The stage is set for Sunday’s CFL conference finals with a pair of spots to the Grey Cup on the line. In the East, the Toronto Argonauts are 1-point favorites at home against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats while in the West, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are set at -8 at home to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The early action is split on the East’s game, but three-quarters of bets are on Bombers in the late game. Winnipeg is also seeing a lot of support to win the Grey Cup. The Bombers are favourites at -133, followed by Toronto at +350.
