The final week of the NFL season features a number of matchups with major playoff implications. Three post-season spots remain up for grabs and top spot in the AFC East and NFC West are still undecided.
On Saturday afternoon, the Kansas City Chiefs are set as big 10.5-point favourites at Denver. The Chiefs already have the AFC West locked up, but can clinch top overall in the conference if they win and the Tennessee Titans lose in Houston. That might be a lot to wish for. On Sunday, the Buffalo Bills will win the AFC East if they beat the visiting New York Jets or if the New England Patriots lose at Miami. The Bills opened as 17.5-point favourites before dipping to -16.5. Almost 80 per cent of the betting action is on the Jets to cover the big number. Meanwhile, the Pats are seeing 75 per cent of the betting support to cover as 6.5-point favourites on the road.
First place in the entire NFC is out of reach for the Los Angeles Rams, but they can wrap up the NFC West division title with a win over the San Francisco 49ers at home or an Arizona Cardinals loss against Seattle. The Rams opened at -5.5 although that line has dipped to -4.5. Arizona (-6.5) wins the division with a victory and a Rams loss.
Week 18 saves the best for last with Sunday Night Football matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and the hometown Las Vegas Raiders. The winner of this one heads to the playoffs, while the loser goes home. Oddsmakers have the Chargers as field-goal favourites with about 65 per cent of the betting support.
It looks as though the New York Rangers’ rebuild is officially over. The Blueshirts momentarily moved into first place overall on Monday with a dominant win over the Edmonton Oilers. They’re now tied for second overall and currently sit third in team money standings having earned 6.5 units for their betting supporters. New York is also filling pockets for those who bet the under. The Rangers’ over/under record sits at 12-21 heading into Thursday’s date with the Vegas Golden Knights. You can still get the Rangers at +368 to win the Metro and at +1800 to win the Stanley Cup.
It all comes down to a Jan. 10 matchup between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs to decide the CFP National Championship at Lucas Oil Stadium. Oddsmakers opened with Georgia as 3-point favourites with the total at 52. Almost three-quarters of early bets like the underdog and we’ve also seen heavy action on the over.
